21 Aug OUR TOP CANBERRA WINES RECENT RELEASES
So, here we are, Canberra’s first lockdown in over a year.
Some of our favourites from the new Canberra Wine releases. After the crushing blow of loosing fruit in the 2020 vintage to bushfires, our much loved Canberra wineries are releasing their current vintages. Below are just a few that our staff recently tasted and found it hard to stop at a glass!!
- Collector Tiger Tiger Chardonnay – $35.90
Alex never stops delivering this perfectly balanced Chardonnay.
Made from 100% Tumbarumba fruit, Canberrans proudly claim this gem their local 🙂
2. Helm Half Dry Riesling 2021 – $36.90
The wine has a floral nose. Delicious sweet fruit flavours balanced by crisp citrus acid. Lime cordial and apricots on the middle palate. A clean lingering finish.
It is a particularly good accompaniment to spicy dishes as the slight sweetness in the wine balances the spice and heat.
3. Ravensworth The Grainery 2021
A favourite vintage!
A very layered and textural wine, lots going on here: viognier dominant this year, pear, quince and ginger but plenty of marsanne’s vulgarity and roussanne’s precise beauty.
A fine acid line underlies a fine yet rich palate with loads of flavour persisting”
4. Eden Road Canberra Syrah 2019
Wow, this won’t last long. Beautiful wine.
Dark cherry and blackberry aromas and flavours. It is a medium bodied Syrah, a perfect example of the cool climate Canberra District.
On Special, Save $10
5. Mada Syrah Nouveau 2020
Punchy, poppy, gluggable Syrah from Murrumbateman.
Nouveau in style, beautiful fruit with structure to balance.
6. Lake George Shiraz 2019
Congratulations Sarah and Anthony, this is a winner!
Bright red currants and forest berries with dark fruit like cherry and spicy tones. The palate has tangy stewed plums and blackberries with light acid and spicy tannins.
Drinking well now, and for many years to come!
7. Gallagher Sauv Blanc 2021
Fruit dominant and full flavoured, the palate is clean and round with good balance. The wine is fruit driven with full and long lasting flavours and a rounded and clean, soft finish.
Rich Honeydew and Tropical fruit aromas with a hint of mint.
8. Nick O’Leary White Rocks Riesling 2021
Hands down one of the best dry Rieslings produced in Australia.
The Nick O’Leary White Rock Riesling is a complex, exceptionally aromatic wine.
9. Long Rail Gully Gris 2021
The 2021 vintage has produced some outstanding varietal wines, with great expression of character.
Flavoursome ripe fruit was fermented at low temperature to retain freshness and fruit intensity. One half of the wine was finished with barrel fermentation and lees aged to add weight and complexity to the palate. Long Rail Gully Pinot Gris is a wine full of flavour and complexity. Stone fruit, peach and pear are abundant.
10. Quarry Hill Lost Acre Tempranillo 2021
A Tempranillo Nouveau, fresh and bright.
The wine spent a brief period in “retired” French oak barrels before bottling in May 2021.
A bit fun, a bit serious. Not just for tapas or other Spanish food, try the wine with any grilled dishes, roast pork or game meats. On a warm day, try it with a bit of a chill on the bottle.
